Life in a Whirlwind

It has been 16 days since I heard I got the internship.

It has been 11 days since I left Japan.

My life has been a whirlwind of emotions, packing, moving, goodbyes, change, reunions, meet ups, and precious time spent with family and friends.

I arrived in America greeted by my mother and siblings, who had hugs, balloons, flowers, and tears of joy waiting for me as I came out the door of customs. It was the best sight I had seen since Rick’s last homecoming from deployment.

19 Months is seriously too long to go without one of Mama’s hugs.

After getting in on Thursday, my father whisked our family away for a much needed reunion up in the mountains. We stayed at a wonderful house with fantastic views, enjoying movies, the outdoors, wine, good food, family Uno games, and plenty of time in the hot tub. It was a perfect way to get time with them after being separated for so long before all my siblings went back to school the next week.

After the weekend was over we returned to the Springs for back to School week, and I spent my time trying to fit in as much family and friend reunion time as I could. Intermixed into that was gleeful shopping and enjoying all my favorite and greatly-missed American foods.

That next Friday, I hopped on a plane to for a weekend trip to Utah to see all the In-Laws. I am now sitting in the airport waiting for my flight back, having so enjoyed this time with my other family. I got to meet my sweet new baby nephew and spend time with my other one who has grown like a weed!

When you don’t see kids in two years, it is amazing how much they change and grow.

All this to say, I thought when I left Japan that I would still find a way to fit in time to write while making my rounds to see family before heading to Arkansas. Well obviously that plan went out the window. So for anyone who wondered if I fell in a hole somewhere, I haven’t… just am taking the time to maximize every day I have before work starts up in AR to see as many friends and family as I can. Once I get to Little Rock and get settled, I will figure out a new writing schedule, and get back into the swing.

For those of you who know how much I love filling an already full schedule and plate, and probably knew writing would get thrown to the wind ;), smile and think of me as I navigate this rapid season of change in my life.

Until next time,
